Cheapa$$ness.
Now I know Tyra likes to talk about being cheap. She just goes on and on about it and it is nauseating. Shut up already! Just because you like to shop at Target and Filene’s Basement on your alone time doesn’t mean that you have to force it down our throats like Buckley’s cough syrup. (Unless I am trying to find those designer shoes for a bargain, then you can talk to me about that, but until then….)
I can’t knock Tyra for being cheap, after all, she has an empire to maintain. She can’t blow $50,000 on a Louis Vuitton handbag. She is a businesswoman and I’m sure that she knows what she is doing.
Which brings me to this…
Why is it that a woman can say that she doesn’t want a cheap man but you NEVER hear a man say that he doesn’t want a cheap woman? You hear him say that he wants her to be smart, funny, independent, looks like Tyra or Janet Jackson, blah blah blah. But you NEVER hear him say that he doesn’t want a woman who shops at Target, Conway, Kmart, Forever 21, etc.
But yet that is the first thing on our list when asked what we want in a man. We have a list of things that we DON’T want and that list is longer than the things that we DO want in a man.
Our list goes something like this: “Well, he can’t be cheap because I can’t stand a cheap man. He can’t be living with his mama. I don’t want a man with kids. I don’t want a man who is a player. I don’t want a man who has a little dingaling. Oh yeah, he has to have a job, a car, he has to be tall and in shape. And he has to look like Morris Chestnut or LL.”
The man’s list goes something like this: “She has to be into God, knows what she wants out of life, she has to be family oriented, she has to know how to cook and be educated.” (Men, feel free to add more to this list if I am missing something.)
See? They don’t say anything about wanting a cheap woman.
I know deep down inside, maybe the men wouldn’t mind a Tyra Banks in their life. Their wallets would be much more safer. (Umm, but you do realize it cost money to get our hair done, right? Wink, wink.)

I shop at those places just as often. Once I found out that Filene’s Basement has all the designer name brands that I see in Macy’s (but 50% off & sometimes more) I became a regular customer. I wouldn’t mind a woman who dresses NICE BUT INEXPENSIVELY. Cheap implies that there clothes & other accessories are made with glue & spit. I especially mean that with the hair. My last ex used to drop $200+ to get her weave done up. OUCH! I told her not to expect me to pay for that sh-t when I know you have beautiful NATURAL hair that could look very nice with a $15-$20 wash & set.
